Welcome to the first installment of NHL Betting Dark Horse Teams!

This week, our NHL Betting Dark Horse teams are the Arizona Coyotes and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Arizona Coyotes

After a very respectable 2-2-0 season-opening road trip, the Coyotes returned home and beat the Anaheim Ducks in their home opener on Saturday.

Forget winning the Stanley Cup, the Western Conference, or the Central Division; picking the 2023-24 Arizona Coyotes even to sniff the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs would be like going to a casino and playing roulette blindfolded but on online betting odds!

Well, guess what? This puck scribe picked the Coyotes to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since the 2020 postseason tournament in the bubble, and I did it without the blindfold!

Coyotes head coach André Tourigny has his young core, led by Clayton Keller, believing in themselves. Also, veterans like defenseman Matt Dumba and forwards Jason Zucker and Nick Bjugstad have brought invaluable experience and a calming presence for the younger players.

With the Chicago Blackhawks in a rebuild, the St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators in at least a retool, and the Winnipeg Jets having no clue what they’re in, the Coyotes have at least a path to being in the wild-card mix down the stretch run of the regular season. If they can continue to catch teams by surprise in the early going here, they should be able to make it at least interesting once the calendar turns to 2024 and then go from there.

So do yourself a favor and jump on the Coyotes wagon now and howl right to the bank with some surprise winnings!

Stanley Cup Odds: +15000

Western Conference: +13000

Central Division: +9000

Andre Tourigny to win the Jack Adams Award: +10000

Logan Cooley to win the Calder Trophy: +800

Keller, Cooley, and defenseman Sean Durzi will all be at least worth a look on player props each game, and goalie Karel Vejmelka will be a saves machine!

Philadelphia Flyers

Not many were giving the Philadelphia Flyer a chance to compete this season. In fact, there was and continues to be, trade speculation over Flyers goalie Carter Hart, who was once thought to be the goalie of the future for this once-storied franchise.

Moving under the radar, the young and John Tortorella-inspired Flyers are off to a surprising 3-1-1 start to lead the Metropolitan Division early on.

The Flyers, like the Coyotes, are loaded with youth. Forwards Joel Farabee, Bobby Brink, Owen Tippett, Noah Cates, Tyson Forrester, Morgan Frost, and defensemen Cam York and Travis Seinheim are rising to the occasion right now. Mix in veterans like forwards Sean Couturier, Cam Atkinson, Travis Konecny, Scott Laughton, and Marc Staal, and suddenly this team is not certain win on the schedule but rather a potential speedbump.

Oh, and Hart’s been more than solid!

So before the Flyers continue to rack up some unexpected points, it would behoove you to start looking a little closer at them when wagering.

Stanley Cup Odds: +20000

Eastern Conference: +12500

Metropolitan Division: +15000

John Tortorella to win the Jack Adams Award: +5000

Bobby Brink to win the Calder Trophy: +15000
