Bruins Trade Rumors: Eichel And Subban Updates

NHL Trade

NHL trade buzz for Jack Eichel has picked up again. Are the Bruins once again one of the teams in on the former Boston University star and 2015 Hobey Baker Award winner?

What’s the latest on the Bruins-PK Subban NHL trade rumors that were reported here over the last month?

That and more in what will be a once-a-week BHN+ column here called Bruins NHL Trade Buzz. This is a freebie but starting September 24, you will need to be a subscriber.

Eichel Trade Chatter Buzzing Again

Let’s start with the biggest name on the NHL trade market still, Buffalo Sabres center Jack Eichel. NHL trade chatter on Eichel picked up on this week and a follower of mine (@Zoomzip1) asked me if this NHL trade rumor regarding the Buffalo Sabres captain had any legs?

NHL trade

I looked around online to see if any reputable NHL media had reported anything on this latest Eichel NHL trade rumor and couldn’t find a thing. Just to be safe though, I checked with an NHL source familiar with NHL trade discussions involving Eichel and he basically laughed at it and had this to say:

“That return [from the Kings] would be a lot more than we’ve discussed.”

The same source did acknowledge though that since Eichel switched agents three weeks ago, the NHL trade chatter surrounding the disgruntled Sabres center has definitely picked up.

“Brisson has a lot more juice,” the same source said of Eichel’s new agent Pat Brisson.

So is an Eichel trade close to imminent?

“Honestly, it’s changing every day,” said the source.

As for the Bruins still being one of many teams interested in acquiring Eichel, numerous sources told BHN that they are, but as of Thursday, they were not the frontrunners. By all accounts, those teams would be the Kings, Vegas Golden Knights, Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota Wild, Anaheim Ducks, and Anaheim Ducks. If I was a betting man, I’d be betting on the Kings or the Knights at this point.

Subban-Leafs NHL Trade Rumors May Be Just That, Rumors

On September 5, I reported here that multiple NHL sources were telling me that the Toronto Maple Leafs had expressed “more than lukewarm interest” in New Jersey Devils defenseman PK Subban. Well, according to a Devils source that wasn’t the case. Our sources were strong but there is now conflicting and changing information. We’re going to pull back on those NHL trade rumors until we get a clearer picture.

That being said, can you imagine how much Subban to the Leafs would electrify the Leafs-Habs rivalry after the Montreal Canadiens erased a 3-1 deficit in the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs and handed their rivals a first-round exit once again?

As for the Boston Bruins and their interest in Subban on the NHL trade market, I can confirm that, yes, on more than one occasion it’s been there. Whether it’s currently an ongoing interest? I get the feel from numerous conversations lately that the Bruins are ready to let the cards fall where they may be on their blue line for now and see where they’re at down the road.

Again, back to being the betting man, I do believe that Subban gets dealt at some point before the Trade Deadline.
