Bruins Postpone 1969-70 Stanley Cup-Winning Team Reunion

For now, the 50-year anniversary of the most beloved Boston Bruins team in franchise history will be on hold. Due to rapidly growing concerns regarding the Coronavirus, the Bruins announced Wednesday that their planned March 24 celebration of the 1969-70 Stanley Cup-winning Bruins team later this month has been postponed until further notice:

“The Boston Bruins announced today, March 11, that the organization has postponed the ceremony to honor the 1970 Stanley Cup Team to the Fall of the 2020-21 season. Given the higher risks associated with COVID-19 in older adults, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends avoiding all non-essential travel and as such the Bruins do not want to encourage travel for members of the 1970 team.

The ceremony was originally scheduled to be held prior to the Bruins-Red Wings game at TD Garden on Tuesday, March 24.

The Boston Bruins organization looks forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1970 Stanley Cup Team at a future date and time to be announced.”

On Monday, the NHL banned media from NHL dressing rooms and limited access to players. Since then, players have met the media behind podiums and at least six feet away from any reporters. The Bruins followed that procedure in Philadelphia before and after their 2-0 win over the Flyers Tuesday night. The team is yet to announce any other plans regarding their approach to the virus, instead directing any questions connected to COVID-19 to the league.
