Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak proved to be a dynamic duo a season ago. After some early season struggles from Rask, the veteran netminder settles down and provided the Bruins with elite goaltending. While Rask found his legs, Halak kept the Bruins in games and collected points with what seemed like relative ease.
There is no debate about the roles these two netminders will play. Halak is the backup, the insurance policy, while Rask is the starter. That is how it was a season ago and how it will be in 2019-20. Rask isn’t worried about his workload, telling the media on Friday that he is eyeing the same workload in the coming season.
Halak, meanwhile, is full embracing the backup role. The veteran netminder knows exactly what is expected of him heading into the new season and knows that he will be counted on to spot Rask. He’s not worried about anything but providing strong play behind Rask and playing when called upon.
Halak spoke to the media on Friday afternoon.
