BHN Daily: Boston Bruins Wind Up Missing Out On Janmark, Iafallo

Published

on

If there was one intriguing name out there that was traded that the Boston Bruins might have been interested in, it would have to Mattias Janmark. Perhaps he became an unnecessary piece once the B’s had unearthed bottom-6 forward Curtis Lazar from the Buffalo Sabres, but there was definitely trade interest on Boston’s part prior to him getting moved to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Our buddy Dominic Tiano certainly seemed to be hoping the B’s were going to be in on the energy guy from the Chicago Blackhawks, who eventually was moved to Vegas with a fifth-round pick for a 2021 second round pick and 2022 third round pick.

San Jose served as a middleman picking up a portion of Janmark’s salary as well to make the dollars work for everybody involved in exchange for a fifth-round pick.

After serving as a depth guy for the Dallas Stars over the last four seasons, the 28-year-old pending UFA had 10 goals and 19 points in 41 games for a Blackhawks team that’s still in the running for a playoff spot in the Central Division. At the end of the day, though, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney did all his work late on Sunday night when he landed Mike Reilly, Taylor Hall and Curtis Lazar for a second-round pick, a third-round pick and Anders Bjork.

That’s pretty good work by the Boston Bruins GM under some significant pressure to make impact moves for a hockey club that needed help.

Now on to the BHN Puck Links:

*Speaking of deadline deals, it’s super weird to see old Flyers like Jeff Carter becoming members of the Pittsburgh Penguins. But I guess things like that happen when you’ve been kicking around the NHL long enough. (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

*Devan Dubnyk is happy to be a member of the Colorado Avalanche after experiencing the other side of their offensive firepower over the years. (Colorado Hockey Now)

*Credit Don Sweeney for a good job at this deadline as he was able to make some impact moves for Taylor Hall, Curtis Lazar and Mike Reilly without giving up the coveted first round pick that he didn’t want to sacrifice in a potential rental. (Boston Hockey Now)

*The Florida Panthers have added to their forward group with a trade for Sam Bennett from the Calgary Flames. I wonder how the quarantine rules work for a player like that. (Florida Hockey Now)

*The Bruins were also linked to Los Angeles Kings forward Alex Iafallo in trade chatter, but he ended up signing a four-year, $16 million extension with the Kings. (NBC Sports)

*For something completely different: Love this tweet from Adam Sandler and honestly thought this guy was the actor that played his caddie in Happy Gilmore until I looked it up.
