Bruins Sign Danton Heinen To Two-Year Contract Extension

The Boston Bruins announced late Tuesday night that the team had signed restricted free agent forward Danton Heinen to a two-year contract extension through the 2020-21 season. The deal is worth $5.6 million with an annual NHL cap hit of $2.8 million.

Heinen just filed for salary arbitration back on July 5th and was to have a hearing on August 3rd if the two parties did not come to an agreement. Heinen was coming off a three-year entry-level contract that carried annual NHL cap hit of $875,000 after being drafted by the Bruins in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

During the 2018-19 season with the Bruins Heinen played in 77 games compiling 34 points (11 goals and 23 assists). That was a drop off from his rookie campaign during the 2017-18 as he played in the same number of games for the Bruins recording 47 points (16 goals and 31 assists). After scoring just one goal in nine playoff games in his rookie season, Heinen doubled his goal total to two and added six assists with the Bruins in 24 playoff games this season.

Heinen has played on both wings throughout the Bruins top three lines but found a home this past season on the third line with Charlie Coyle and Marcus Johansson, who left the Bruins via free agency to sign with Buffalo.
