NHL Trade Rumors: More Bruins-Chychrun Updates, B’s Eyeing Miller Too

The Boston Bruins continue to be linked to Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun, who remains the hottest name on the NHL trade market.

There have also been reports that the Bruins are exploring what the cost for Vancouver Canucks center J.T. Miller would be on the NHL Trade market.

Let’s start with NHL trade rumors surrounding the B’s and Chychrun, the 23-year-old 2016 first round pick (16th overall), that they’ve been linked to for awhile now. On the latest TSN Insider Trading Tuesday, TSN Insider Darren Dreger said the Bruins remain part of a quintet of NHL teams that maintain a ‘strong interest’ in Chychrun on the NHL trade market.

“Now, sources say that the list of teams with a strong interest in Chychrun includes L.A., Florida, Boston, Anaheim, and the St. Louis Blues,” Dreger said on TSN NHL Insider Trading Tuesday night. “Now, Bill Armstrong obviously has time on his side, so he is going to let this marinate a little bit more unless he gets the four components that are needed.”

According to Dreger, one of the Bruins’ chief archrivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs may also jump into the Chychrun NHL trade sweepstakes.

“Well look, Chychrun has term left on his contract and I can tell you, the Toronto Maple Leafs are among many teams who have at least kicked tires on Chychrun, but you look at the Toronto Maple Leafs’ roster, how they move forward, it seems like a tough fit for the Maple Leafs to try and maneuver unless Kyle Dubas gets extraordinarily creative,” Dreger added.

Chychrun has two goals and eight points this season while averaging a team-high 24:14 of ice time per game. He has 48 goals and 129 points in 320 career games. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound rearguard is in the third season of a six-year contract that carries a $4.6 million cap hit.

As for the Bruins interest in Miller, it’s no secret that in addition to a top 4 pairing d-man like Chychrun, they have and remain in the market for a second-line center. Daily Faceoff NHL Insider Frank Seravalli recently reported that one of the pivots the Bruins are currently targeting on the NHL trade market is Vancouver Canucks center J.T. Miller.

Miller, who turns 29 in March, is in the fourth season of a five-year contract that carries a $5.2 million cap hit. He has 12 goals and 28 assists in 40 games this season for a team that new Canucks GM Patrik Allvin said is on the verge of change. Boston Hockey Now has linked the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks in NHL trade talks before as the twp teams did discuss trade scenarios that would’ve saw Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk got to Vancouver for former Canucks winger Jake Virtanen. DeBrusk has since requested a trade but those previous Bruins-Canucks trade talks took place when former Bruins Assistant GM Jim Benning was the Canucks GM.
