Bruins Call Up Goalie Michael DiPietro With Jeremy Swayman Hurt

The Boston Bruins have called up another player from AHL Providence and likely added another player to their ever-growing list of injuries.
Boston recalled goalie Michael DiPietro on Thursday ahead of their game against the Ottawa Senators. The move comes less than 24 hours after they pulled star netminder Jeremy Swayman from his start against the New Jersey Devils early.
The #NHLBruins have recalled goalie Michael DiPietro from Providence.
Joe Sacco said after last night's loss in NJ that Jeremy Swayman was "dealing with something minor," which is why he was removed from the game before the third period.

With the Bruins already trailing 4-1 after two periods, Swayman exited the game after already making 24 saves but was reportedly not on the bench at the start of the third period.
“Sway is dealing with just a little bit of a minor upper-body issue,” Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco said before Thursday’s game. “With the quick turnaround here, obviously, last night and tonight, we’re going to hold him out here tonight, and we’ll just monitor it day by day.”
With Swayman out, Joonas Korpisalo will start in goal for the Bruins this evening against Ottawa, with DiPietro serving as his backup.
DiPietro, 25, has appeared in 22 games with Providence this season, recording an overall record of 14-5-3 with a 1.95 goals against average, a .930 save percentage and three shutouts. He was recently named an AHL All-Star and currently ranks second in the league in goals-against average, fourth in save percentage, and fourth in wins.
“He’s been playing well,” said Sacco. “He’s had a good year. It’s an opportunity for him to come and back up.”
Trent Frederic will return to the Bruins’ lineup tonight after missing the last two games with an illness. Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm, Mark Kastelic, and Cole Koepke are all still out with injuries.
Puck drop between the Bruins and Senators from TD Garden is at 7 p.m. EST.
