Fabian Lysell Called Up By Bruins For NHL Debut
BOSTON — Fabian Lysell has been one of the top prospects in the Boston Bruins organization ever since he was drafted in the first round three years ago.
Now, he’s officially a member of the Bruins and will debut for them tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets after the team recalled him from AHL Providence on Saturday.
Fabian Lysell will debut for the Bruins tonight on a line with Justin Brazeau and Trent Frederic.

“He’s played well in Providence,” Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco said. “Talking to the coaching staff down there and our management, they feel like he deserves an opportunity. It’s exciting. Anytime you get your first game in this league, it’s always a special day, and it’s a memorable day.”
Lysell, 21, has tallied 104 points with 34 goals across 136 career games in the minors. This season, he’s posted 17 points with five goals while being limited to just 26 games due to injury.
The winger’s arrival in the NHL has been anticipated for years, especially as one of the few Bruins prospects with high-end puck skills.
There was hope that Lysell would crack the team’s roster entering this season out of training camp, but he was instead sent back down to Providence to marinate a little while longer following an inconsistent performance during the preseason.
“His offensive game looked like it was coming into form,” said Sacco. “You could see he was getting more confidence, especially off the rush with the puck, attacking and making plays. His play away from the puck, I thought needed some work. From all reports, he’s making a conscious effort to be more responsible away from the puck.”
Now, Lysell’s debut, which always seemed inevitable, is imminent and couldn’t come at a better time for both him and the Bruins.
While the Bruins were busy losing 6-2 to the Blue Jackets with a deflating performance at Nationwide Arena on Friday night, Lysell scored a goal and three assists for Providence in a 4-1 victory over Bridgeport.

Offense has been hard to come by for the Bruins this season. Their 2.62 goals per game ranks 26th in the league, while their power play is second to last, operating at 13.4 percent.
From Tyler Johnson to the newly acquired Oliver Wahlstrom, the Bruins have auditioned several players this year in hopes of finding depth scoring.
Tonight, Lysell will get his chance.
