Bruins Waive Offseason Free Agent Signee Riley Tufte

A free agent signing by the Boston Bruins this past summer has already run out of time with the team.
First reported by Sportnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Bruins placed forward Riley Tufte on waivers Friday afternoon.

Tufte, 26, failed to record a point in two games with the Bruins after signing a one-year contract as an unrestricted free agent with the team this past summer.
If left unclaimed on the waiver wire, Tufte will report to AHL Providence.
Placing Tufte on waivers creates $775,000 in cap space for the Bruins, leaving them with an estimated $1.18 million in available funds, according to Puckpedia.
There are a couple of different ways the Bruins could use that money.
Tyler Johnson spent training camp with the Bruins on a professional tryout contract and has remained with the team through the early part of the season. With 193 career goals, Johnson, 34, would provide the Bruins with some semblance of an offensive threat in their middle six, which they haven’t had to this point early in the year.
Boston may also look 50 miles south to Providence, where there are a couple of prospects who could fill Tufte’s roster spot.
Fabian Lysell has a goal and two points through four games this year in the AHL. Although he’s an unproven commodity at the NHL level, the former first-round selection would likely come with a burst of energy that the Bruins have lacked through their first eight games of the season. The same could be said of Georgi Murkulov.
At 3-4-1, the Bruins have lost three straight games and collected points in just three of their last five contests.
The Bruins will continue their current homestand on Saturday night when they welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to TD Garden. Puck drop is expected at 7 p.m. EST.
