NHL Trade

Is Jake DeBrusk’s value on the NHL trade market the highest it’s ever been?

A former Bruin has joined the fight against Russia on the battlefields of Ukraine.

That and more in the latest BHN Bruins Wrap:

Boston Bruins

After notching his first NHL hat trick and adding an assist in a 7-0 win for the Bruins, will the value on the NHL trade market for Jake DeBrusk ever be higher? The Bruins winger, who requested a trade earlier in the season now has a five-game point streak going with seven goals and two assists over that span.

Less than 24 hours after Boston Bruins rookie goalie Jeremy Swayman earned his third shutout of the season and won his fourth straight game, he was named NHL Rookie of The Month for February.

While some delusional American sports fans praise anti-vaccine athletes like Kyrie Irving and Aaron Rodgers as freedom fighters, former Bruins forward and NHLer Dmitri Khristich showed the world what a real hero and freedom fighter is by joining his fellow Ukrainians in the armed resistance against Russia.

NYI: The New York Islanders never wanted to place Devon Toews on the NHL trade market just prior to the 2020-21 season but cap restrictions forced them to. The Colorado defenseman will face his former team for the first time since the trade and our man on the Island, Stefen Rosner takes a look at how Toews has performed since being dealt by the Isles.

Philly: When the Philadelphia Flyers rocked the NHL trade market last summer and acquired defenseman Ryan Ellis in a three-way trade with the Nashville Predators and Vegas Golden Knights, it looked like the Flyers would have one of the best blue lines in the NHL this season. Instead, Ellis has played just four games, the Flyers defense has been a mess and now Ellis is likely done for the season.

Washington: The Washington Capitals made another free agent signing on Tuesday.

Florida: Former Boston Bruins and UMass-Amherst winger Frank Vatrano is looking to find a regular spot back in the Florida Panthers lineup.

Detroit: The New York Rangers are scouring the NHL Trade market for a defenseman. Could they find one on the Detroit Red Wings blue line?

San Jose: Russian NHLers are facing death threats when they speak out against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Canada Hockey Now

Montreal: The out-of-the-box rebuild for the Montreal Canadiens is underway and MHN Habs beat reporter Marco D’Amico maps out how the rest of the process may go.

Vancouver: Former Boston Bruins goalie Jaro Halak is mired in one of the worst slumps of his career as a backup goalie for the Vancouver Canucks.

Calgary: Add the Calgary Flames to the list of Stanley Cup contenders looking for defensive depth on the NHL trade market.

NHL

The Toronto Maple Leafs are the latest Cup contender linked to Chicago Blackhawks goalie Marc-Andre Fleury in NHL trade rumors.

The Chicago Blackhawks have a new general manager.

Finally, with the St. Patrick’s Day season upon us, I’ll be posting some of my favorite Irish music, musicians, and bands here until after parade weekend and March 21! Today we start with an Irish band from the Maritimes that my Dad introduced me to, The High Kings:

With 20 years of experience (SiriusXM NHL Network Radio, ESPNBoston, NESN, NHL.com, etc.) covering the Bruins, the NHL, NCAA and junior hockey and more, Jimmy Murphy’s hockey black book is full of Hall of Famers, current players, coaches, management, scouts and a wide array of hockey media personalities that have lived in and around this great game. For 17 of his 20 years as a hockey and sports reporter, Murph covered the Bruins on essentially a daily basis covering their victorious 2011 Stanley Cup run and their 2013 run to the Final as well. Murphy has hosted national and local radio shows and podcasts and also has experience in TV as well.

Thanks for the heads up on The High Kings. When I read they are from the Maritimes I was shocked I had never heard of them as I’ve lived here most of my life. It turns out they are from the old country. Dublin to be exact. Well done on on the recommendation though.
