Bruins Wrap: Bruins Humiliated, Marty St. Louis, NHL Trade Rumors

Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins began the post-Tuukka Rask era with another embarrassing loss to the Carolina Hurricanes Thursday. The Bruins fell 6-0 and despite missing their two best players in Brad Marchand and captain Patrice Bergeron, head coach Bruce Cassidy wasn’t in the mood for excuses.

Speaking of Rask what will be his legacy in the storied history of the Boston Bruins?

The Montreal Canadiens introduced new interim head coach Martin St. Louis to the media and their fans on Thursday.

For the second day in a row, another NHL head coach walked the plank. This time it was Edmonton Oilers head coach Dave Tippett.

That and more in the latest BHN Wrap:

Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins have now been outscored 16-1 in three games against the Carolina Hurricanes and it’s clear that they’re doomed if they draw the Canes in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Where does Tuukka Rask stand in the pantheon of Boston Bruins and NHL goalies? Is his legacy completely tarnished in Boston because he could never hoist the Stanley Cup as an NHL starting goalie?

My partner-in-scribe, Joe Haggerty gave his take Thursday. I gotta say, given how hard Haggs has been on Rask since Game 6 of the 2013 Stanley Cup Final, he had nothing but respect for the now-former Bruins netminder and at the same time provided a fair critique of Rask’s 15 years as a Bruin.

The Montreal Canadiens introduced Martin St. Louis as their new interim head coach on Thursday and the hall of famer and 2004 Stanley Cup champion did not disappoint. St. Louis plans to be demanding but is also focused on making a demoralized Habs team have fun playing the game they love again.

While the Canadiens lost 5-2 to the Washington Capitals Thursday night, it was clear the St. Louis hire sparked rookie winger Cole Caufield who scored his first goal in 17 games.

It’s looking more and more like Tomas Hertl won’t be traded before the March 21 NHL Trade Deadline.

Virginia native and Little Caps alum Joe Snively scored his first NHL goal for the Washington Capitals Thursday.

Are the New York Islanders opening their offense up?

The Florida Panthers are the best team in the Eastern Conference and arguably the NHL. So what and who should the Cats be targeting at the NHL trade deadline to win their first playoff round since 1996?

Cammi Granato became the second female NHL assistant general manager on Jim Rutherford’s Vancouver Canucks hockey staff. She joins Emilie Castonguay, the French Canadian lawyer and analytics specialist who was hired January 24th.

Beware of the Calgary Flames, that’s all I’ll say.

NHL

Dave Tippett became the second NHL head coach in as many days to be fired as Edmonton Oilers general manager Ken Holland had that ‘gut feeling’ it was time for a change.

The lads on TSN Insider Trading discussed that; the potential of Vinny Lecavalier joining the Habs hockey ops department in some capacity, and where Mark Giordano ends up before the NHL trade deadline. What about carrying the puck down ice mid-air?

NHL Network analyst E.J. Hradek found himself in a firestorm after trashing recently fired and now-former Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme on Twitter.
