BHN Puck Links: Froden, Studnicka & Keyser Sent Down By Boston Bruins

Published

With the NHL expected to shut things down until Christmas to let the COVID situations calm down in pretty much every corner of the National Hockey League, it’s going to be quiet in terms of Boston Bruins hockey content for a while. There’s also no need for the extra bodies that were filling in as players like Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and Craig Smith were missing due to positive COVID tests, so the Bruins announced they were sending Jesper Froden, Kyle Keyser and Jack Studnicka down to Providence on Saturday afternoon.

Keyser was looking at potentially making his NHL debut this weekend if the B’s had played the back-to-back games in Montreal and Ottawa, and Froden did make his NHL debut on Thursday with two shots on net, three hits and a blocked shot in 12:59 of ice time in the loss to the Islanders.

This came on the heels of the Boston Bruins cancelling Saturday morning practice they had initially planned, presumably removing it from the schedule once they realized both of this weekend’s games were going to be postponed at the very least.

We’ll all wait for official word from the NHL that all of the games have been postponed leading into the three-day Christmas break, but replacement players getting returned to the AHL is a sure that is right around the corner.

Now on to the BHN Puck Links:

*The Boston Bruins were hardly at fault for the last game they lost on Thursday night, and in hindsight probably shouldn’t have even played it. (Boston Hockey Now)

*Stick tap to Alex Ovechkin as he has tied the NHL record for power play goals over the course of a career. (Washington Hockey Now)

*Here’s a good rundown on some of the struggles of Kasperi Kapanen with the Pittsburgh Penguins this season. (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

*Is Erik Karlsson switching defenseman partners as the San Jose Sharks look for the best recipe for success for him? (San Jose Hockey Now)

*Here’s some Christmas cheer from the Winnipeg Jets.

*Plenty of worthy NHL players that deserve consideration for Team USA when they’re deciding on the Olympic roster, if the players do indeed go to the games in China. (Sportsnet)

*Would you look at this Malcolm Subban wizardry from last night with the Buffalo Sabres? Why can’t the Boston Bruins get players like this? I kid, I kid.

*For something completely different: Here’s my spoiler-free review of Spider-Man: No Way Home with an extra stick tap to Willem Dafoe for an amazing return as the Green Goblin. Everybody was excellent, but he served a reminder that he was next level as that villain.
