The Perfection line will make its 2021-22 preseason debut as Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak will be reunited for the first time since the Boston Bruins were eliminated from the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs by the New York Islanders back on June 9. The Bruins’ second line Thursday night could also be their second trio up front when the regular season begins on October 16. Coming off a brilliant performance (1g, 1a) in a 3-2 preseason loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday night, rookie center Jack Studnicka will start the game between Taylor Hall and Craig Smith. After scoring in his Bruins debut in the 3-2 win for the Boston Bruins over the Washington Capitals on Sunday, new Bruins forward Erik Haula will center Jake DeBrusk and new Bruins forward Nick Foligno, who will be making his Bruins debut.
The blue line could also resemble the opening night roster too. New Boston Bruins defenseman Derek Forbort will play the left side alongside Charlie McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk will be to the left of Brandon Carlo.
Rookie goalie Jeremy Swayman will get his second start of the preseason after making 18 saves on 19 shots in the preseason opener.
“Tonight is the first go for our main guys,” Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said Thursday. “We put them all on the lines that they’re comfortable with and then we may mix and match as we go. There’s not a ton of time. I’m not worried about Bergy’s line, they’ve been together a long time. It’s the other three combinations, there’s some newness…practice will help, the 10 days [between the preseason and the opener], but there’s nothing like live action to do it.”

As for the Philadelphia Flyers, they won’t have nearly as many regulars in the lineup Thursday but former UNH star James van Riemsdyk and former Boston Bruins forward Nate Thompson will be playing. New Flyers goalie and former Bruins goalie (for a few hours!), Martin Jones will get the nod between the pipes.
