BHN Puck Links: Hertl Trade Price, NHL Remembers 9/11

9/11

Hard to believe but it’s been 20 years since the world stopped and our country was attacked on 9/11. Like all of us, the NHL and the Boston Bruins were both affected greatly by the loss on 9/11. In today’s BHN links we look back on that infamous day.

What’s the price going to be for San Jose Sharks center Tomas Hertl on the NHL trade market?

Could Tyler Bozak end up with the Pittsburgh Penguins?

Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins lost a beloved member of their alumni 20 years ago, when Garnet ‘Ace’ Bailey perished on United Flight 175, the second plane to hit the World Trade Center. Bailey, a Los Angeles Kings scout, was flying to LA for training camp with fellow Kings scout and Boston University scout Mark Bavis. Ace was an integral part of the Big Bad Bruins team that won two Stanley Cups for the Boston Bruins. He was also Wayne Gretzky’s first roommate in the NHL and a mentor to The Great One.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Ace when I was working with the New York islanders the season before and he was as advertised: Hilarious, caring and just a great guy. I also lost others I know on a day that was supposed to be my first on the Boston Bruins beat for The Boston Metro. Here’s a look back I did on that day during my time at NESN in 2009. (NESN)

Per FOBHN Kevin Kurz, the price for San Jose Sharks center Tomas Hertl on the NHL trade market will be a first round pick, high-end prospect, and a player who will be NHL ready around the same time as William Eklund and is a center or defenseman. (The Athletic)

A year ago today, as I was once again mourning those lost on 9/11, news broke that ska and reggae legend Toots Hibbert had passed after a short battle with COVID. I was already trying not to let my emotions overtake me since I was with my daughter, but the tears started flowing. I put on my Toots and The Maytals Pandora channel and this song came on. I thought of all those who lost someone on 9/11/01 and the dreams they never got to fulfill but still remember.
