BHN Daily: Boston Bruins Keep Rolling, Trouba Suspension Coming?
The Boston Bruins continue to find ways to win and on Friday they found their path to a 1-0 victory over the New York Rangers on the penalty kill and through Jaro Halak.
Did a Rock, Paper, Scissors battle in warmups prior to that win lead to physical battles in the game?
Does Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba have a hearing coming for a headshot on Bruins defenseman Jakub Zboril?
That and more in the latest BHN Daily!
We are rapidly running out of superlatives for the 2021 Boston Bruins and we’re only 13 games in. As the Bruins killed off another New York Rangers powerplay in the final seconds of their 1-0 win on Friday, my buddy Josh Staunton text me this:
“Halock!”
That seemed like the perfect superlative after the Bruins won their fifth straight game Friday and gained a point for the tenth straight game behind a 21-save performance from Jaro Halak and the penalty kill going 6-for-6. (Boston Hockey Now)
The second game of the back-to-back with the Rangers was physical and resembled the days when this Original 6 matchup was actually a rivalry. Was a mental game between Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand and Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad at the end of warmups what set the stage? (Boston Hockey Now)
Should Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba get suspended for this headshot on Boston Bruins rearguard Jakub Zboril? (Boston Hockey Now)
Here’s your NHL ‘Short Notes’ from the night that was in the NHL Friday (Kukla’s Korner)
The Boston Bruins will conclude their current three-game road trip on Long Island tonight when they face the only team to beat them in regulation this season, the New York Islanders. Islanders goalie Semyon Varlamov shut the Bruins out with 27 saves in a 1-0 win for the Islanders on Jan. 18 and with the exception of allowing five goals to the Washington Capitals on Jan. 28, he’s been huge for the Isles. (NYI Hockey Now)
As always, the 2015 NHL Entry Draft will be referenced today and tonight when the Bruins and Islanders play and it will only increase if Mathew Barzal can continue his point-streak which is now at seven games. (NYI Hockey Now)
A week from tomorrow, the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers will play each other outdoors for the second time in the NHL Lake Tahoe Games. This will be a much different setting than when the Bruins beat the Flyers 3-2 in overtime (Long live the Sturm Face!) back on New Year’s Day 2010 at Fenway Park and the NHL crews are hard at work preparing for the weekend at Lake Tahoe. (NHL)
Remember when the Tuukka Rask haters used to say the Bruins should’ve kept Martin Jones for more than two days and traded Rask? Yeah, I’m guessing neither do they! (San Jose Hockey Now)
Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos joined th COVID Protocol list Friday after a great start to this young season. (TSN)
Speaking of COVID Protocol, the league announced changes recently and they’re not messing around! (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)
On a sad note regarding COVID, my daughter’s maternal and last paternal grandfather passed away from the virus Thursday night. She or my ex-wife’s family couldn’t even say goodbye to him in person and had to say it over FaceTime. That is an all too frequent tale as COVID continues to ravage families all over the world. To her grandfather, his family, those who’ve lost loved ones, and all who have fallen to this terrible pandemic, this Murph’s Music Pick of The Day is for you:
‘But since it fell into my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I’ll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all’
