BHN Puck Links: Boston Bruins Playing Outdoor Game At Lake Tahoe

Happy New Year to all the loyal readers and followers out there, both Boston Bruins fans and otherwise!

Our hope is to bring you all kinds of great stories, interesting discussion and anything else under the hockey sun as we go through a 2021 NHL season that’s going to be interesting, unexpected and ground-breaking in so many ways.

Let’s hope it looks a little more normal by the time we are done with it this summer, but either we’ll get through it with the same kind of determination, unselfishness and empathy that have marked the efforts of so many this year. We have a cool little Bruins nugget to start this 2021 New Year with the report from FOH (Friend of Haggs) Elliotte Friedman that the Bruins are planning to play an outdoor game in late February vs. the Philadelphia Flyers in Lake Tahoe.

The Bruins and Flyers will play a game, and the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche are expected play in Tahoe as well toward the end of February. The games will reportedly be played around the 16th, 17th and 18th holes at the Edgewood Tahoe Resort in what Friedman calls a “Mystery, Alaska” kind of experiment.

This sounds super-cool to us even if there aren’t expected to be any fans, and there will probably be a very limited media presence as well with all COVID-19 restrictions considered. Now let’s get on to the rest of the puck links:

*Nice touch by the Boston Bruins putting a cool “thank you” billboard on the side of TD Garden to recognize their captain after he signed with the Washington Capitals this week.

*Speaking of Big Zee, here’s the full story of the amicable parting between the Boston Bruins and Zdeno Chara including a clear-eyed look at exactly why and how it happened this way. It’s a BHN+ story, so a subscription will be required. (Boston Hockey Now)

*FOH Dan Kingerski has seven Big and Bold Predictions for the Pittsburgh Penguins with training camp almost upon us. (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

*Alex Ovechkin and Connor McDavid finished with the top goals scored in the year 2020, as compiled by the folks at Pro Hockey Talk. I love that the “Best of” lists for 2020 are here because it means that the year 2020 is finally over. (NBC Sports)

*Pierre-Luc Dubois has signed a two-year bridge deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets, but it sounds like some hard feelings still remain there. Not great, Bob! (The Athletic)

*Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello remains hopeful that the Islanders are going to sign RFA Mat Barzal to a contract ahead of training camp. (NYI Hockey Now)

*For something completely different: Yes, that’s right. The third season of Cobra Kai is now available on Netflix! (IGN.com)
