The Matt Grzelcyk Gamble is a Key One for the Boston Bruins | BHN+

Like it or not, the Boston Bruins are going to need much more from Matt Grzelcyk moving forward.

The Bruins are betting on the 26-year-old Charlestown native with the storybook Boston hockey career, who went from puck-loving son of a TD Garden bull gang member all the way to Bruins defenseman now getting paid $14.75 million to play hockey in Boston for the next four seasons.

With Torey Krug gone to St. Louis and Zdeno Chara’s future uncertain as an unsigned free agent, Grzelcyk is now the surest thing the Bruins have on the left side of their defense, and possibly for the foreseeable future. The $3.6875 million dollar question: Is that going to be enough for a Black and Gold group that still has Stanley Cup aspirations with their established core group of players.
