Torey Krug will be one of the premier free agents on the market in October. The offensive defenseman has emerged as an elite force from the blueline in recent seasons. His play has no doubt earned him a big raise on the $5,250,000 salary he currently makes.

A big raise on that dollar amount almost certainly prices the Michigan native out of Boston. That potential reality is no secret to Krug, the Bruins or fans of the club. It’s something Krug acknowledged on Friday.

“One of the first things we all talk about in this locker room is being aware of the situation that’s right in front of (us), and then accepting that situation,” Krug began when asked about if he’ll treat these playoffs differently. “For me it’s no secret that, well, this could be the last run that I have at winning a Cup with this group.”

Throughout his career in Boston, Krug has built strong relationships with his teammates. If this is in fact his last run with this tight-knit group, it’ll be a memorable one.

“I get to do that while I’m stuck in a bubble with all those guys and get to enjoy their company 24/7 for as long as we’re there,” Torey Krug continued. “So, I’m just trying to enjoy it. Obviously we have to remain focused and we have a job to do, but I think that’s part of the process that we all enjoy in here. It’s always fun to go to battle with these guys, I’m not approaching the games any differently.”

Krug’s approach isn’t the only thing that will remain the same. His willingness to do whatever it takes will also still be there in August.

“Still willing to sacrifice and do anything for this group,” Krug said. “As they are for anyone else in that locker room. That’s the fun part of it, going to battle and then we get to return to a hotel room and reminisce on the games and create better memories. I’m excited about the opportunity and I know those guys are as well.”
