Torey Krug Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins claimed a thrilling victory over the Washington Capitals on Monday night. Unfortunately for the Bruins, that victory came at a great cost. The Bruins placed veteran defenseman Torey Krug on injured reserve. In response, they have recalled Steven Kampfer from AHL Providence. Kampfer is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the Bruins visit the Buffalo Sabres.

Krug missed roughly two weeks of action for the Bruins earlier this season with an injury. He was hurt in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers on November 10th and did not return until the 23rd against the Minnesota Wild. That injury, suffered after a hit from Claude Giroux, was also classified as an upper-body injury.

He has appeared in 33 games this season, registering 26 points (5 g, 21 a). That is good for the lead among Bruins defensemen. Overall, Krug ranks 12th in the NHL in points among defensemen, one behind Quinn Hughes and Erik Karlsson for tenth in the league.

Kampfer has played in four NHL games this season. He has failed to register a point while collecting two penalty minutes and a +2 rating. He’s also skated in six AHL games with Providence, scoring four points (0 g, 4 a). Kampfer was recently suspended by the AHL two games for an interference incident in a game at Hartford on December 21st.

Through 205 career NHL games, Kampfer has scored 13 goals and added 19 assists for 32 career points.
