Seeing their captain Zdeno Chara skate out the runway and onto the ice for the game-day skate Thursday morning was just further proof to his Boston Bruins teammates of the leader and special breed of person Chara is.

“That’s toughness; that’s leadership,” fellow defenseman John Moore said. “Just his presence out there. …ya know, he’s such a great leader, such a great teammate, a great leader and he’s just a big part of this team. Just his presence here is a big lift for everyone. You know that if there’s even the slightest of chance, he will [play]. The guy’s a legend for a reason. His toughness; his leadership, and just being able to get out there and skate this morning, was on full display.”

Winger and alternate captain Brad Marchand echoed Moore’s sentiments.

“He’s an incredibly tough man. He’s willing to play through anything,” Marchand said. “It shows so much character in him.”

Forward Jake DeBrusk didn’t seem surprised at Chara’s latest feat.

“That’s just Zee…it speaks to his character,” the second-year winger said.
